Marije Helder

Marije Helder was born in 1980 in Groningen. At the age of ten she began her violin and later viola studies at the Young Talent department of the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. In 2003 she graduated from the Rotterdam Conservatoire and received the title Bachelor of Music with a 9.5. Two years later she received the Master of Arts diploma with distinction at the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg. She received her Postgraduate Diploma in Performance (also with distinction) from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester in 2007. Her teachers were Liesbeth Steffens, Ron Ephrat, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Peter Langgartner and Mark Knight. Marije won several prizes at the Prinses Christina Concours and the International Charles Hennen Chamber Music Competition.

Previously Marije played in orchestras such as the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Camerata Salzburg, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra in Manchester and the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2002 she made a concert tour in America with the Concordanza Quartet. Three years later she toured Japan with the Helder-Kaneko duo.

Marije was associated with the Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic from January 2008 to August 2013. From August 2013 she is part of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.
Besides her orchestral work, she was organiser and co-founder of the Zenith Festival, an international chamber music festival. She also works as a hair stylist.
