Paul Jussen

Paul Jussen is the principal timpanist in the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. He was born in Heerlen in 1965. In 1982 he graduated from the National Academy of Music in Voeren, Belgium. He continued his studies at the Maastricht Academy of Music. Here he graduated with honours as a performing musician in 1990. His teachers were Jo Zinzen, Pieter Jansen, Werner Otten, Ruud Wiener and Chris Dekker.

Paul was awarded a Belgian government medal and won the Edmond Hustinx prize in Maastricht. From 1986 to 1988 Paul was principal timpanist with the National Youth Orchestra. Since 1988 he has been associated with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra as timpanist and percussionist. He has been the principal timpanist since 2003. Besides his orchestral work, Paul teaches timpani at the Utrecht Conservatoire.
