This concert opens with the most moving passages in the entire opera literature: the introduction to the first act and Isoldes 'Liebestod' from Wagner's scorching love drama Tristan und Isolde. Then the Dutch premiere of the Third violin concerto 'Ich und Du' by the leading post-war Russian composer Sofia Gubaidoelina, since the fall of the wall especially in the West a lauded composer and in the AVROTROS Vrijdagconcert a welcome guest. Finally, Rachmaninov's Third Symphony, considered his most Russian.
