The Netherlands Radio Choir and mezzo-soprano Maria Prudenskaya sing Sergei Prokofiev's historical drama Alexander Nievsky. The Finnish top conductor Hannu Lintu leads the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.
Sergei Prokofiev regularly worked as a composer for films. In Alexander Nievsky, moreover, the music was an integral part of the events on screen. The piece tells about the life of Alexander, Prince of Novgorod. A thirteenth century statesman and warrior, who kept the then Russia afloat against all kinds of enemies.
