Philharmonie Zuidnederland has for some time had a happy partnership with a cellist who also conducts: Mario Brunello. In 1986, he was the first Italian to win the famous Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. After Fauré's beautifully musing Elégie for cello and orchestra, Brunello will solo in the best-known of Camille Sainst-Saëns' three cello concertos, which is both romantic and gallant. In the last work on this program, the Suite No. 4 "Mozartiana," Tchaikovsky pays tribute to his favorite composer Mozart.
