New Year's Concert 2021 with world premiere

The traditional New Year's Reception of the Municipality of Hilversum will take place on Tuesday 12 January in Studio 1 of the Netherlands Broadcasting Music Centre, without an audience. The event will be streamed and can be followed live on YouTube from 19:30 onwards. On television, the programme can be followed on Ziggo channel 36 and KPN channel 1379.

World premiere 'Parting' by Karmit Fadael

During the New Year's Reception, the mayor will deliver his speech and the municipal pin will be awarded. The Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and violinist Charlotte Spruit (winner of 2nd prize in the Oskar Back Violin Competition 2020) will provide the musical accompaniment, conducted by Sander Teepen. For this occasion, the young composer Karmit Fadael has composed the work Parting, which will have its world premiere this evening. Beloved works by Verdi, Ravel, Dvorák and Strauss complete the programme.

Stipend

Karmit Fadael's work has been made possible by the City of Hilversum and a grant from the Friends of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. More about this initiative can be read in: Radio Philharmonic Orchestra launches scholarship for young composers.

Making dreams come true

On the occasion of the world premiere of Parting, Karmit Fadael had previously been a guest of Hans Haffmans in the NPO Radio 4 programme Podium and of De Nieuws BV on Radio 1. NRC published an extensive interview by Joost Galema with the headline 'Karmit Fadael knows how to give sound to dreams'.
