In the late 1980s and early 1990s Edo de Waart conducted the four parts of Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra for the Saturday Matinee. The Matinee and the Evening Concert/NTR Operalive broadcast the entire cycle on NPO Radio 4 on four consecutive Saturdays in July 2021.
Der Ring des Nibelungen consists of an eve(Das Rheingold) and four days(Die Walküre, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung) and tells the story of the ring of power that is cursed by the Nibelung Alberich and leads to a power struggle with supreme god Wotan in which their respective children and grandchildren Hagen, Brünnhilde, Siegmund and Siegfried also become involved.
Edo de Waart and the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and the Groot Omroepkoor performed the first Ring after the war and ensured an unforgettable experience. Listen to the entire cycle here.
