On 1 June Edo de Waart, honorary conductor of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, turns 80. On 30 April, he conducts the AVROTROS Friday Concert in a programme featuring Brahms' Second Symphony and, with the assistance of the Groot Omroepkoor, Nänie and Gesang der Parzen.

In the run-up to his birthday concert, Edo de Waart is the focus of attention on NPO Radio 4 and NPO 2 Extra. An overview.

Guest in Podium Witteman

An ensemble of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra played for Edo Henk de Vlieger's arrangements of Wagner's Siegfried-Idyll and the Prologue to the third act of Lohengrin.

 

On NPO Radio 4

On Monday 26 April Edo was the one-hour guest of Hans Haffmans in Podium on NPO Radio 4. They talked about his career, his years with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and his favourite music.

Edo de Waart Assistant Conductorship

On Wednesday 28 April, Roland Kieft, director of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, addressed Edo de Waart. Because of his artistic significance for the orchestra and his role in training young conductors, the orchestra is naming the assistant conductorship after Edo de Waart: the Edo de Waart Assistant Conductorship.
