Rebecca Smit

Rebecca Smit is tutti cellist in the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. She was born in 1969 in Leiden and began her cello studies at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. Here she obtained her diploma as a teaching musician in 1993. She continued her studies at the Utrecht School of the Arts and graduated as a performing musician in 1997. Her teachers were Elias Arizcuren and Marien van Staalen.

During and after her studies, Rebecca also followed international master classes with Siegfried Palm and Johannes Goritzki, among others. Rebecca substituted frequently with renowned Dutch professional orchestras and performed as soloist with various amateur orchestras. Furthermore, Rebecca is currently very active in the field of chamber music. She is a member of the Trinitas Trio and the Doelen Ensemble, an ensemble dedicated to 20th and 21st century repertoire.

She has been associated with the Muziekcentrum van de Omroep since 1997. Rebecca Smit plays a cello by Hilaire Darche from 1927.
