Pieter Vel

Pieter Vel plays first violin in the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. He was born in Utrecht in 1953. 

Here he studied at the conservatoire with Carlo van Neste. In 1977, he graduated and began further training in the Meisterklasse of Professor Max Rostal at the Hochschule für Musik Köln. In 1980, he completed his training and joined the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra as first violinist. Prior to that Pieter Vel had worked as a substitute with the WDR Orchester Köln during his student years there. Subsequently, he held the same position in Dutch orchestras such as the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and, more recently, for many years with the Concertgebouw Orchestra.

In addition to his job as a violinist, Pieter has developed over the years as an art and antiques expert. His specialism is applied art.
