Niels Jacobs
Niels Jacobs (b. 1999) is a widely oriented trombonist with a great passion for both the symphony orchestra and chamber music with diverse compositions. He has been a member of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra since 2023, which is the perfect place for him because of its high musical level and very diverse programming. He is also a member of the Nymphéas Trombone Quartet, and performs regularly with the New European Ensemble and the Netherlands Wind Ensemble, among others.
From 2017 to 2021, Niels pursued undergraduate studies in Classical Trombone at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where he was taught by Pierre Volders, Remko de Jager and Jörgen van Rijen. During these years he substituted with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, among others. In 2021 he continued his studies in Switzerland at the Hochschule der Künste Bern with internationally celebrated trombonist and teacher Ian Bousfield, with a minor in early music with recorder player Michael Form. In addition, he was accepted into the orchestra academy of the Sinfonieorchester Basel in 2022, which, like his master's studies, he successfully completed in 2023. Also during these years he was first trombonist of the prestigious Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester.
During his studies, Niels achieved some successes at competitions. For example, he won the 2018 Princess Christina Competition, after which he gave many solo concerts, including a tour to America and Canada. Later, he also won the 2022 ITF Robert Marsteller Competition and the second prize of the 2021 Getzen Ian Bousfield Solo Competition.
