Antony Hermus
Antony Hermus is chief conductor of the National Orchestra of Belgium and guest conductor of Opera North. His hard work, strong musical vision and infectiously positive approach enable musicians and singers to give their best.
Last season he performed for Orchestre National de Lyon, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Berlin Konzerthausorchester, Orquesta Sinfonica da Galicia and the orchestras in Stavanger and Trondheim, among others. In 2024/25, he returns to the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic in their prestigious Matinee series at the Concertgebouw, and to the Residentie Orkest, Bonn Beethovenorchester, Auckland Philharmonia, BBC Scottish Symphony, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the North Dutch Philharmonic. He first appears with the Vancouver Symphony, Tenerife Symphony and Polish National Radio.
Hermus has conducted opera in Stuttgart, Strasbourg, Gothenburg, Komische Oper Berlin and the Nederlandse Reisopera. He was music director in Dessau 2009-2015, where he conducted his first Ring cycle. In 2025, he will conduct Martinu's Giulietta in Nice and Simon Boccanegra at Opera North.
He was Principal Guest of the North Netherlands Orchestra from 2018-2024 - recent highlights included a Mahler cycle and a Charles Ives celebration with local brass bands - and is now Honorary Conductor for Life. He is also a guest lecturer at the Amsterdam Conservatory of Music and the "National Master of Orchestral Conducting" program, and artistic advisor to the National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands. He has recorded works by several rediscovered Romantic composers for CPO with the Bamberg Symphony, among others.
