Andrea Sanguineti
German-Italian conductor Andrea Sanguineti is music director of the Essener Philharmoniker and the Aalto-Musiktheater in Essen, where he is currently winning acclaim with productions such as Parsifal, Tosca, Aida and La forza del destino.
Andrea Sanguineti is a sought-after opera conductor at leading European opera houses, including the Oper Zurich(Verdi Gala, Lucia di Lammermoor, Rigoletto), the Deutsche Oper Berlin(Don Giovanni, Manon Lescaut), the Oper Köln(Lucia di Lammermoor, Die lustige Witwe), the Oper Leipzig(Lucia di Lammermoor, Tosca, La Cenerentola), the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg(Stiffelio, Norma), the Opéra de Nice(La traviata) and the Grand Théâtre de Genève(Maria Stuarda). In 2023 he made his debut at the Sydney Opera with Donizetti's Roberto Devereux and in 2024 at the Savonlinna Festival with Mozart's Don Giovanni.
In addition to his opera career, Andrea Sanguineti is also acclaimed for his symphonic work with the Essener Philharmoniker, where he has conducted impressive performances of Mahler, Bruckner, Strauss and Tchaikovsky, among others. He also conducts such renowned orchestras as the Gürzenich-Orchester Cologne, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in Amsterdam and the Orchestra Națională Radio in Bucharest.
Andrea Sanguineti regularly collaborates with internationally renowned soloists such as Frank Peter Zimmermann, Anna Vinnitskaya, Maria Agresta, Alexey Vinogradov, Jonathan Tetelman, Benjamin Bernheim, Lisette Oropesa, Saioa Hernández, Kathrin Dehaes and Rolando Villazón.
He trained in Vienna and Milan and began his career as Maestro Preparatore and later Kapellmeister at the State Opera of Hanover. In 2011 he was appointed First Kapellmeister of the Mainfranken Theater in Würzburg and shortly thereafter musical director of the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater in Görlitz-Zittau, where he served until 2018.
