  • Max Reger Vier Tondichtungen nach Arnold Böcklin

Liszt Piano Festival Utrecht
Difficult-but-human' is how the Utrecht piano festival describes itself. Liszt's virtuoso works challenge the young participants technically, but also require inner and creative growth. The prestigious competition is a springboard for many top pianists.

Liszt and Reger
The forty participants of Liszt Utrecht 2022 draw from an enormous reservoir of piano works by the romantic virtuoso Franz Liszt. The winner will be soloing with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra today. You will probably hear the Fantasie über ungarische Volksmelodien. Liszt made this orchestral arrangement of one of his Hungarian rhapsodies. The 'Wanderer' Fantasy, based on a composition by Schubert, will probably also be heard. The German conductor Christian Reif will also conduct works by Max Reger, a composer strongly influenced by Liszt. His Vier Tondichtungen nach Arnold Böcklin depict four intriguing, somewhat dark paintings.
