This concert focuses on music by Jan van Gilse, one of the most important Dutch composers and conductors after 1900. Musicologist Eduard Reeser praised his much-appreciated "spirited musicality and technical mastery" and called him a "born composer. Featured here is his cantata Der Kreis des Lebens (1929) to lyrics by Rainer Maria Rilke, composed in Berlin. In addition, the finished beauty of Franz Schubert's "Unfinished" symphony.
