Programme

  • Jean Sibelius Lemminkäinen returns home from Lemminkäinen Suite
  • Frédéric Chopin Second piano concerto
  • Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Fourth Symphony

"Insanely refined, raw where necessary," NRC wrote about pianist Denis Kozhukhin, who plays Chopin's Second Piano Concerto. With conductor Emilia Hoving, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra also presents Tchaikovsky's epic Fourth Symphony.

Denis Kozhukhin returns to the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra
Denis Kozhukhin experienced his international breakthrough in one fell swoop in 2010 when he won first prize at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. A successful concert pianist and chamber musician, the Russian pianist has been showered with rave reviews. 'Insanely refined, raw where necessary,' according to
NRC. About an earlier performance with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Parool wrote: 'Kozhukhin proves that there is life in classical music'. Back then he played Grieg, this time he is soloing in Chopin's poetic Second Piano Concerto.

Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4
'Should not a symphony express everything for which there are no words, but what flows from the soul and cries out to be expressed?" said Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky about the intentions of his
Fourth Symphony. He wrote an epic work about the vagaries of fate, melancholy, a drunken intoxication and, ultimately, joie de vivre. The Radio Philharmonic Orchestra plays Tchaikovsky's masterpiece under the direction of the promising Finnish conductor Emilia Hoving.
