Sol Gabetta plays Shostakovich

Programme

  • National Youth Orchestra plays the Sacre
  • Sárka (from My Fatherland)

Guest conductor Dima Slobodeniouk, who is familiar with the Friday Concert, leads the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. The renowned Argentine cellist Sol Gabetta is soloist in the First Cello Concerto by Dmitri Shostakovich, a work with hidden expressions of criticism, disapproval and pain about the inhuman circumstances in which the composer and his country found themselves. This is followed by Brahms' Third Symphony,
created under much more peaceful circumstances in Wiesbaden, Germany, in the summer of 1883.
