Ronald Brautigam
On October 1, the eminent pianist and Beethoven specialist Ronald Brautigam turns 70. He celebrates this a few days before, where he is most at home: in the Great Hall of the Concertgebouw. Accompanied by the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, he will solo in Beethoven's mighty Third Piano Concerto.
Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3
Beethoven kept the key of c minor for his most extroverted and emotional compositions: stormy, heroic and dramatic. The Third Piano Concerto is no exception. The long, symphonic orchestral introduction and the powerful piano entry set the stage for a concerto full of lyricism and virtuosity. The Adagio from Otto Kettings Third Symphony is poignant and elusive. It is decidedly modern, but regularly refers to the music of Mahler.
