Radio Philharmonic Orchestra: Prokofiev and Mahler

Programme

  • Joey Roukens Distorded Fantasia (after J.P.Sweelinck)
  • Gustav Mahler Selection from Des Knaben Wunderhorn
  • Sergei Prokofiev Suite from Romeo and Juliet

The traditional Valentine's concert boosts love every year. Going to a concert together already creates a bond, the music adds to it. Listen to songs from Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn or a suite from Prokoviev's Romeo and Juliet. Mezzo-soprano Maria Warenberg and the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra know how to touch everyone's heart.

Golden Sound

Maria Warenberg was one of the 2023 laureates of the leaden Queen Elizabeth Competition. The Dutch mezzo-soprano now sings as a soloist with the Opéra National de Paris, and her international star is rising fast. 'A powerful, lyrical and golden sound,' wrote Het Parool about this 'opera star in the making.'

Impossible Love

Romeo and Juliet
is perhaps the ultimate love story. Made famous by Shakespeare, the classic about an impossible love is also a source of inspiration for many composers. Prokofiev turned it into a full-length ballet. Even in the various suites he composed afterwards, the equally romantic and tragic story can be followed until the inevitable death of love.
