Mendelssohn's 'Scottish'
The sensation of this episode of Pieces of Tomorrow is Mendelssohn's Third Symphony aka 'Scottish' Symphony.
Felix Mendelssohn summed up the impressions of his holiday in Scotland as a 20-year-old in his Third Symphony. The rugged highlands, the famous abbey ruins in Edinburgh and even the bagpipes – the most horrible instrument he had ever heard – pass by in this work.
You can listen to it casually in this Pieces of Tomorrow, just a little later in the evening, with a drink in your hand, a short introduction of the musicians, supporting visuals and DJ St. Paul as host.
Edo de Waart has announced his retirement as conductor and had to cancel this concert. He will be replaced by Sasha Scolnik-Brower.
