Pieces of Tomorrow – Mahler 2
Programme
- Gustav Mahler excerpts from Symphony No. 2, "Resurrection"
Pop and classical music come together in *Pieces of Tomorrow*: classical music with a fresh twist. Over the course of an hour, you’ll hear excerpts from masterpieces that you simply must experience live. Bring your drink into the hall, let the visuals and lighting enhance the music, and enjoy the pure sound of a full symphony orchestra and choir! Host DJ St. Paul chats with the conductor and musicians, revealing the stories behind the notes.
’s special edition of Mahler’s Second Symphony is a complete experience. It is a journey from which you emerge a different person than when you began. Mahler’s ambitions were colossal: an all-encompassing symphony centered on the question “Why do we live?” And he brilliantly delivers on them. The final thirty minutes, featuring a large choir, soloists, and an expanded orchestra, are so overwhelming that even the most ardent skeptic is left stunned, experiencing a religious revelation. Actually, this isn’t something we can usually do at Pieces—every performance costs a fortune—but since our resident orchestra, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Groot Omroepkoor are celebrating their 80th anniversaries, we’re doing it together anyway! A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
Afterparty
After the concert, the party continues until midnight. The bar is open, St. Paul provides danceable tunes and the musicians mingle with audience members for a chat.
