Public Rehearsal – Mussorgsky's Painting Exhibition
Programme
- Modest Mussorgsky / Maurice Ravel Paintings from an exhibition
Painting with notes – that's what Mussorgsky could do. His piano work (!) Paintings of an exhibition became famous in Ravel's masterful orchestration. The Russian visited an exhibition with some 'folk' drawings and travelogues by Viktor Hartmann, with whom he was good friends. He later translated what he saw into music. This is how he brings the market of Limoges to life: do you hear how the women exchange the latest news? The play ends triumphantly at The Great Gate of Kiev.
