Wagner, Dvořák and Sibelius
Conducted by chief conductor Karina Canellakis, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in the BASF Feierabendhaus in Ludwigshafen performs a programme of works by Wagner, Dvořák and Sibelius, previously played in the NTR Saturday Matinee and the AVROTROS Friday Concert.
Antonín Dvořák's The Afternoon Witch is part of his first series of symphonic poems from 1896, based on sometimes quite sinister Czech folk tales. The work is framed by the soaring sounds of the prelude to Wagner's Parsifal and the suite of the four monumental Lemminka's legends from 1893-95, with which Jean Sibelius established his name as Finland's leading composer.
