Some called Theo Loevendie "Theo Loe Verdi" when he quoted Verdi's Otello in his opera Naima (1985). This concert opens with Music for a Strange Wedding from that first opera by Loevendie, almost like a majestic overture from the French baroque. Then 'the word' goes to the horn phenomenon Radovan Vlatkovi. After his two previous brilliant performances in the Friday Concert, he is now back with the virtuoso and melodious First Horn Concerto by Richard Strauss. After the interval, Mahler's colourful First Symphony 'Titan' will be performed , with beautiful nature evocations, a vagabond's lament, a funeral march and a volcanic finale. My time will come', Mahler said after the controversial premiere.
