Karina Canellakis leads Bruckner's 9th
Programme
- Anton Bruckner Ninth symphony
Karina Canellakis
Karina Canellakis conveys her own enjoyment of the music like no other, wrote one reviewer. The American principal conductor of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra has been on a Bruckner journey with her company for some time. Today she is conducting the Ninth Symphony. Trouw called her vision of an earlier Bruckner symphony 'compelling'.
Bruckner
I have fulfilled my task on earth', Bruckner wrote not long before his death. I did what I could, and wish for one thing more: that I may be permitted to complete my Ninth Symphony. Unfortunately, he was not able to do so. Moreover, after Bruckner's death, several pages of the manuscript were stolen from his study. Nevertheless, Bruckner completed enough sections to make the Ninth a popular concert piece. The work is monumental and deeply personal at the same time, full of Romantic influences but with its feet in the twentieth century.
