The Labyrinth by Peter-Jan Wagemans

Programme

  • Peter-Jan Wagemans Labyrinth (world premiere)
  • Anton Bruckner Symphony no.0 in d 'de Nulde'

An eight-year-old boy's wandering through Amsterdam as a mythical city. That's what Peter-Jan Wagemans imagined when writing Labyrinth.

Wandering through Amsterdam
He bases the music on the lines of the well-known song
Aan de Amsterdamse grachten. The piece follows the fortunes of a boy who visits his grandmother in the capital with his parents, but has to leave the room for a while. He takes to the streets and wanders around an environment that is stranger and more enchanting than anything he has ever experienced. He makes that experience audible to the audience in the music.

Unnumbered
In addition to this commissioned work, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra plays Anton Bruckner's
Symphony in d, also known as the ninth symphony. He wrote the work after his first symphony, but was so uncertain about it that he did not number the work. Today, fans of his music rate this Nulde symphony a lot more positively.
