Fauré's Requiem by the Great Broadcasting Choir

Programme

  • Claude Debussy Danse sacrée et danse profane
  • Gabriel Fauré Pavane
  • Gabriel Fauré Requiem

Fauré's Requiem is heavenly and comforting music of an eternal beauty. Led by top conductor Stéphane Denève, the singers of the Groot Omroepkoor know better than anyone how to make these hopeful notes sound most beautiful.

Fauré's Requiem
'This is how I see death, as a joyful lore and a pursuit of the joy above, rather than a painful experience,' Gabriel Fauré said of his Requiem. As such, it is not a bombastic, violent work like the requiems of Mozart, Berlioz or Verdi. No, Fauré's Requiem is comforting and hopeful. He even left out the Dies irae, the most vehement part, about Judgment Day. What remains is heavenly music of an eternal beauty.

Great Broadcast Choir
Together with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Groot Omroepkoor is the house ensemble of the Sunday Morning Concerts. It is the vocal ensemble for the larger repertoire and is loved worldwide. They sing a cappella repertoire and music for large chorus and orchestra. Their core repertoire is the more unfamiliar music that does not naturally appear on concert programs. But also the "eternal repertoire," such as Fauré's Requiem, is right up their alley.
