Eine Alpensinfonie with Edo de Waart

Programme

  • Willem Pijper Six adagios
  • Richard Strauss Eine Alpensinfonie

Edo de Waart is honorary conductor of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, where he says he had his finest years. He conducts one of his favorite works: Strauss' monumental Eine Alpensinfonie.

Edo de Waart conducting Strauss
'A piece in which I personally take great pleasure,' says maestro Edo de Waart about Strauss's Eine Alpensinfonie. Today he leads the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in this majestic symphonic poem. Strauss describes a day in the Alps, from shortly before sunrise until nightfall. 'Strauss passionately loved the landscape around Munich,' says De Waart. And so all the elements of that landscape recur: from green mountain pastures to thickets. From rising mist to radiant sun.
