Chloe Rooke conducts Beethoven's Symphony No. 7

Programme

  • Felix Mendelssohn Overture Midsummer Night's Dream
  • Ludwig van Beethoven Seventh symphony

Chloe Rooke conducts Beethoven's Seventh Symphony. The Allegretto from it carries the modern film classic The King's Speech. But hearing the entire symphony, no movie can beat that. Mendelssohn's Midsummer Night's Dream takes the listener into a mysterious dream world full of fairy-like playfulness.

Beethoven's Symphony No. 7
Like all his symphonies, Beethoven's Seventh Symphony is a world unto itself. The first movement is elegant, radiant and cheerfully dance-like. The second movement is the total opposite: an intimate funeral march. It was always the symphony's best-known movement; the film The King's Speech added to it. In addition to Beethoven's symphony, the program includes music by Mendelssohn. His music for Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream created a mysterious dream world full of fairy-like playfulness.

Chloe Rooke
The young British conductor Chloe Rooke is the first to be offered the Edo de Waart Assistant Conductorship by the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. This assistant conductorship was dedicated by the orchestra to honorary conductor Edo de Waart, who started a tradition at the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra of bringing young talent to fruition. Rooke received high marks at several conducting competitions and, as a forerunner of the newest generation of conductors, is ready to take the orchestra world by storm.
