Canellakis and Benedetti play Szymanowski
Programme
- Tristan Keuris Arcade
- Karol Szymanowski Second violin concerto
- Robert Schumann Third symphony 'Rheinische'
This concert opens with music by one of the Netherlands' most prominent composers, Tristan Keuris, who was born in Amersfoort in 1946 and died in 1996, aged just fifty. That his respect for traditional, honest craftsmanship can produce great art can be heard in Arcade, dedicated to the RFO and the last piece he completed. It consists of six preludes that together form a kind of colonnade with arches. Then there is music by the European wanderer and chameleon, the Pole Karol Szymanowski. His Second Violin Concerto contains echoes of the folk music of the Tatra people: melodious, magical but also raw, primitive and earthy. The concert closes with Robert Schumann's vibrant and rural ode to the Rhine.
Tickets will be on sale from 1 May.
