Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem by the Groot Omroepkoor

Programme

  • Johannes Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem

Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem is comforting, warm and grandiose. It is one of the pieces in the core repertoire of the Groot Omroepkoor, and as such, it sounds like it was written for them.

Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem
With his
Ein deutsches Requiem, Johannes Brahms transferred the mass of the dead from Latin to the vernacular and thereby made it very personal. The music is comforting, warm and grandiose. Brahms composed the requiem after the death of his mother. Both the transience of life and comfort for those left behind after a death are central to this piece full of intimate and sincere human emotions. Ein deutsches Requiem offers a glimpse into the soul of one of history's greatest composers.

Grand Omroepkoor
Ein deutsches
Requiem is one of the pieces in the core repertoire of the Groot Omroepkoor, the only choir in the Netherlands that performs the great choral symphonic repertoire in a professional manner. Consequently, it sounds like it was written for them. As one of the house ensembles of The Sunday Morning Concert, the choir is completely at home in the Great Hall.
