Beethoven 5
Everyone knows the first four notes of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony: 'Ta-ta-ta-taa!' The catchy yet enigmatic beginning would represent fate knocking at the door, or symbolize Beethoven's impending deafness. The Allies heard the V of "Victory" in it, in Morse code. That's the beauty of this highlight of music history: everyone listens to it differently. The Radio Philharmonic Orchestra plays the iconic masterpiece under the baton of their former principal conductor Markus Stenz.
Simone Lamsma plays Roukens' violin concerto
Simone Lamsma is our special guest in The Sunday Morning Concert. Using her 1718 'Mlynarksi' Stradivarius, she will solo in a brand new violin concerto by Joey Roukens, one of today's most important Dutch composers. Roukens wrote the violin concerto especially for Simone Lamsma, commissioned by AVROTROS.
